My mother passed away on June 30, 2004. I've set up this account as a tribute to her. I'm going to start by posting the series of faces she did that I already have on my hard drive, and then I'll add finished pieces as I find them as I sift through the dozen CDs I copied her work to.
Her name is Gerry Douglas, and she was a brilliant, extremely talented woman who was constantly driven to produce exceptional, innovative work. Any small talent I might posses can be traced directly to her. She was very exacting, and believe me, if I broke some rule of composition or chose my colors unwisely in my own work, she let me know about in no uncertain terms. Every conversation I had with her made me a better person and a better artist.
Mom applied an almost uncanny expertise and attention to detail to everything she touched. She was an expert seamstress, woodworker and gardener, a gourmet cook, a historian, and above all she was an amazing artist. She left behind an incredible body of work, indeed I'll only be able to display a small part of it here. I hope you enjoy her art even half as much as I do.
Mom obviously won't be able to respond to any comments, but I'll try my best to do so should the occasion arise. I should mention that I found some of my pieces on her computer and I might put them up as favorites here, I'm not sure at this point. If I should do this, please, please don't think that I'm doing it as some kind of cheap self-promotion. I realize that there are some deviants who set up bogus accounts with the purpose in mind of faving their own work. This behavior is reprehensible and completely unacceptable, and I'd never, ever do such a thing. If I put any of my art in favorites on this account, it will be because they
were her favorites, either because she just liked looking at them or because she was trying to emulate some part of something that I had done.
I love you Mom, and I miss you terribly. You live on in myself, in my siblings and their children, but most importantly in the eternal legacy of art you've left for the world.

note: I'm having a bit of a problem deciding on the right categories for some of these more whimsical pieces, and I seem to find myself putting them in miscellaneous just to get the job done. If you have any suggestions for more appropriate categories, please let me know. I find DA's current system somewhat convoluted and difficult to deal with.*********
Here are some other tribute accounts set up by fellow deviants in memory of departed loved ones:

Thank you for keeping them alive and in the present by sharing their art.
